The Black Expat® is a multimedia platform focused on Black identity and international living. Since 2016, we have created and curated content to reflect the diverse, inclusive experiences of the aspiring Black expatriate.

While numerous sites explore the travel abroad experiences, few focus exclusively on the Black life abroad. With the Black expat perspective limited in visibility, we provide a platform for inclusive Black expat stories to be heard… from the Bajan who goes to the U.S. to study to the Nigerian entrepreneur who moves to Jamaica, and everyone else in between who may find themselves in Beijing or Abidjan or Melbourne.
By offering lessons learned, the Black Expat makes it a little easier for those who are navigating their international journey. It’s always best to learn the good, the bad and the real from people who have taken the road less travelled.
Welcome to The Black Expat. We’re changing the narrative.

As a third culture kid, Amanda’s interest in navigating cross-cultural spaces and identity started young. Her American-born, African raised perspective continues to influence her as she leads the creative direction of The Black Expat and tells the stories that need to be told.
She has travelled five continents, lived on three and proud of her uncanny ability to recite 1990s music lyrics in the most random situations.
